The history of Carnaval
Carnaval is celebrated in Febuary 21, and ends March 9. During Lent, no parties or other celebrations were held, and people didn't eat rich foods like meat, dairy, fats and sugar. So that is why the people held festivals to dispose of all the rich foods. Carnaval first orginated in Italy then rapidly spread through many countries and even states.

Compare and contrast
Mardi Gras in the U.S is different and similar from the Valpariso Carnaval in some ways. One way that they are similar is that they both end on Ash Wednesday. Also, The both eat the famous King Cake. Another thing is that they both have huge parades and big celebrations. They also both start on the same day. However, things that are different are that Mardi Gras in French and Carnaval is Hispanic. Another thing is that Carnaval doesn't eat Creole and Cajun foods. That is how Mardi Gras in the U.S and Carnaval in Valpariso are different and similar in some ways.
How is Carnaval celebrated in the U.S?
Mardi Gras starts on January 6th and can last until Ash Wednesday.
They eat sea food, corn, cakes, and all sorts of other sweets. One of the most popular cake is the king cake, in every cake there is a little baby. It's usaully plastic, but years ago it used to be porclein or even gold. The tradition is that if you get the slice with the baby you host the next King Cake party.
